EMS Max has been voted by RealSelf patients as ‘The Most Worth-It Treatment in 2020 & 2021’

EMS Max is a treatment that has been gaining some traction over the last few years, we first heard about it in 2017, though at the time we weren’t sure on its credibility as many procedures feature yearly at Aesthetic expo’s that we don’t see again. We’ve had the EMS Max since early 2022 and now in mid-2024 the new model is out, the EMS Max Pro.

Both machines feature EMS and EMT, likened to EM Sculpt and EM Sculpt NEO. The new machine is 2.5 times more powerful than the previous generation and offers 10,000 additional contractions per 30-minute treatment than the previous model, bringing this total to 30,000 contractions per treatment.

Duration of treatment:

30 minutes

Level of discomfort:

No real discomfort as such, the intensity that the treatment is performed at will be based on an individual’s tolerance. People with minimal body fat usually wont be able to handle the maximum treatment settings for the entire treatment duration. As a rule thumb, the higher the intensity settings the better the results.

Pregnancy & breast feeding, implanted medical devices (pacemakers etc) and women who have metal-based IUD (intrauterine device), such as copper IUD.

1 = There is no downtime with EMS Max however you may experience some muscle soreness on the treated area. We advise not to work out that body part the day before the treatment or the day after.

Up to 30% localised fat reduction and 25% gain in lean muscle tissue, also has proven to be very effective for separation of the abdomen (diastasis recti).

Effective for:

Fat Reduction, muscle gain and Bum lift.

Number of treatments:

4 – 12 on average

What is EMS Max?

New for 2024 EMS Max Pro is FDA approved and uses 2 technologies together (EMS & EMT) to offer an increase in muscle cell volume (contractile proteins and tissue fibres) whilst providing a reduction in body fat. It is basically the same as the previous model that we had from Jan 2022 till May 2024 but is now 2.5 times more powerful with 10,000 more contractions to bring the total up to 30,000 contractions in 30 minutes.

Now, this no easy feat so how does this work?

In technical terms, 2 different currents working at different depths at the same time, 1 working at the subcutaneous fat layer and 1 working on the deep muscle tissue layer. This process is called HIFEM-PT and it stands for: High Intensity Focused Electro – Magnetic Pulse Technology. The electromagnetic field creates motor neuron pulses in 100% of the targeted muscle cell and tissue fibres. Thousands of involuntary isometric contractions are performed in minutes resulting in significant contractile protein hypertrophy (muscle development).

In the micro-second intervals between the electromagnetic contractions the alternate frequencies work on the subcutaneous fat layer, resulting in apoptosis of adipose tissue within each cell (death of each cell).

In layman’s terms, and using the stomach muscles as an example, this means the 8 muscles that make up your ‘abs’ contract and relax 30,000 times in 30 minutes, your abdominal wall then tightens, localised body fat is reduced and each individual muscle increases in size. As an additional benefit, any separation between the left and right side diminishes (this is known as diastasis recti) and any lower back pain or tightness gets alleviated.

After Results

The result of this is an increase in muscle cell volume and subsequent drop in body fat of a targeted area. It is also noted that an upward shift in your metabolism is possible and quite likely, the more muscle you have the higher your metabolic rate (as a general rule).

This procedure will feature alongside our other body treatments that are the Lipofirm Pro (Cellulite reduction and Skin tightening) and Cryolipolysis (Fat freezing). Our extensive background in the health and fitness industry put us in a brilliant position to offer this procedure in the most comprehensive way possible. Every client that has this procedure will also get a full InBody 270 analysis which will give a clear indication to the before and after results through a segmental fat and muscle tissue breakdown.

Treatment FAQ’s

How long do EMS Max sessions take?2023-04-05T14:11:42+01:00

Sessions take roughly 30 – 40 minutes per area(s), 4 x pad placements can be done at the same time so stomach and quadriceps or bum and hamstrings can be done in this time. Please allow 50 – 60 minutes in total for the appointment to allow for preparation and end of treatment time.

Will I notice a difference after the first session?2022-04-11T09:32:09+01:00

In most cases yes, in the same way you would feel and see visible differences after a resistance exercise session. Only this procedure works to a much greater depth of the muscle tissue in a pain free but intense way, once 4 sessions have been performed then the change in localised muscle and body fat will be noticeable throughout the hours of day (not just immediately after). Once 6 – 8 sessions have been performed you will feel and notice the difference every day for around 6 months.

How does EMS Max work? (In a nutshell)2023-04-05T14:11:53+01:00

The non-invasive HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology induces supramaximal muscle contractions much stronger and faster than achievable through voluntary exercise. The vigorous contractions trigger a metabolic change in the overlying fat that leads to destruction of a percentage of the fat cells. Seven published studies showed an average of 25% increased muscle thickness and 30% decreased fat thickness in the abdomen. The studies also demonstrated over 11% reduction in the diastasis recti- the separation between the left and right abdomen muscles that is stretched by pregnancy.

Am I a good candidate for EMS Max?2023-04-05T14:13:07+01:00

Anyone who wants to strengthen and define their abdominal, arms, buttocks, hamstrings, quads or inner thigh muscles can benefit from the EMS Max procedure. The best candidates, who are most likely to achieve optimum results, are of a normal weight range (60 – 90kg for women, 80kg – 110kg for men), exercise other than walking, and eat a healthy and balanced diet.

What does it feel like?2022-04-11T09:32:59+01:00

The EMSCULPT procedure feels like an intensive workout, as your muscles are undergoing a vigorous series of contractions every few minutes for a total of 30 – 40 minutes. The treatment has multiple settings so an individual’s limit (for discomfort) will be found and that’s where the intensity will sit for the duration. There is also a prickling sensation during the treatment.

Is there any downtime?2022-04-11T09:33:12+01:00

EMSCULPT is non-invasive and requires no recovery time or any pre/post treatment preparation or downtime.

How long do the results last?2022-04-11T09:33:31+01:00

Improved muscle tone lasts for at least 6 months but longer if you have monthly top us sessions. The fat loss in the targeted area is thought to be long term due to fat cell destruction and the complexity of fat cell apoptosis, in short, the treatment is currently still quite new so no evidence has been submitted to show that the cells can reinflate or reappear. It is highly likely that the fat cells will not come back in the treated area, but this is not guaranteed, just simply noted. Therefore, it’s not being marketed as ‘permanent fat reduction’ like Cryotherapy is for example.

Who cannot have EMS Max?2023-04-05T14:14:12+01:00

Anyone one fits the following will not be suitable for the treatment:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator, implanted neurostimulator, drug pump or electronic
implanted device
  • Metal rods, pins, plates, metal IUD or orthopaedic implants/joints
  • Pulmonary insufficiency, cardiac disorders, epilepsy, or active malignancy
  • Bleeding disorders, or taking blood thinners
  • History of hernia repair with mesh, or any recent surgical procedure in the area
  • You are under 18 years old
